From June 2015 until September 2018, efforts have been driven by a small, dedicated team made up of staff from a Consortium funded by ECHO, consisting of Danish Refugee Council (Denmark), AFFORD (UK), and the Berghof Foundation (Germany) to improve diaspora emergency response capacity and coordination with the formal humanitarian system.

Since July 2020 DEMAC is funded by the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA - USAID) with a dedicated team managed and hosted by the Danish Refugee Council and seconded by an Advisory Board.
